THE MELBOURNE SHUFFLE MARATHON
RAISING $40K FOR MELBOURNIANS EXPERIENCING
HOMELESSNESS DURING COVID LOCKDOWN
For more than four months through winter, the entire population of Melbourne was locked-down to combat the spread of COVID-19. It sucked. Big time. But there are tens of thousands of people across Melbourne who aren’t lucky enough to even have a home to be locked-down in. So I decided to try and do something that made people smile with Melbourne under lockdown, and helped raise some money for people experiencing homelessness.
How? By dancing for 42 kms doing The Melbourne Shuffle, an iconic dance from our great city, in my living room in Melbourne to dance tunes from a Melbourne DJ.
As the great philosopher Fatboy Slim said (sort of): EAT. SLEEP. RAVE. DONATE.
Fair to say, it went off like a frog in a sock. What started with a $2k goal, ended up at $40,029.23 raised for the amazing people at The Lighthouse Foundation!
HUGE thanks to Manimal for the launch video production, Truce Films for sorting out all the tech, Hardhat foe the amazing website, Cohen Medson from In Your Streams for running the live stream, Ed Bechervaise for the logo, my son Roarke for keeping the whole show running smoothly, and of course, the mighty Sam Hopgood for DJing the entire time!
